072: What It Will Take To Book Clients In 2023

Thank you for hitting play today & for coming back to the Senior Studio Success Podcast.  I’m really excited to share this specific content with you because I believe it is exactly what you need to hear going into this new year.

I just had my biggest year of sales ever & I want to help you do that too in your business.  Today I want to share with you the elements that it took to get there & how you can mimic these next year.  I’m also going to talk to you about money & sales & the time it took to get here.

Sometimes my sales still blow me away, but then they make perfect sense at the same time. 

This is such a great time of year to be talking about this because we are all thinking about the possibilities in front of us next year & I know that this is possible for you too.

Getting high sales with senior photography

If you had told me I would be hitting these numbers when I started this business, I would have told you that you were crazy.  Back then I was working non-stop around the clock it seemed like.  I was a one woman show, doing everything myself, to earn a couple hundred bucks per client.  I should have just worked at McDonald’s because by the time I took out expenses & taxes, I would have made more from a fast food job.

Today I work about 10 hours a week on the studio side of my business, shoot 2 days a week (sometimes 3 if there’s a rain reschedule) & bring in 6 + figures.  And I only say this because I want you to know that if I can, you can.  I’m not special.  I just didn’t quit.

Taking A Break From Your Photography Business

This has been the worst & the best year for me.  If you know me or have listened to the podcast for a while you know that I lost my Dad to pancreatic cancer this summer, right in the middle of my busy season.  I had to shut down my business for a month to help take care of my family.  It wasn’t really shut down, but I couldn’t be here.  I was up & down the road, at the hospital, with my mom & brother & the boys.  Things were handled behind the scenes by my team, but I wasn’t available for my clients.  I was physically & emotionally drained.  There was absolutely no marketing going on, no consults, no bookings, no sales.  

A few months before that I reconnected with an old friend from middle school.  We started dating & he never left my side through that entire time with my Dad.  He was exactly what I needed & I’m happy to say that I just said yes to him for the rest of my life.  We just got engaged this past weekend & I am so crazy happy to be able to tell you all that.  

You went through all the hurt & pain with me, so it’s only fair that you get to celebrate with me now.

Here’s what I’m trying to tell you.  If I can go have the sales I’ve had this year with the year that I’ve had, I know you can too.  It is so possible to build a business that supports you & your family & doesn’t suck the life out of you at the same time.

Here’s what you need: Consistency & Trust.

There are 2 sides to running a business - strategy & mindset.  Let’s talk about that.

Consistency

  • In how you show up

  • In the things that you say (it has to all align)

  • In your marketing (you can’t be high end luxury one month & a look like Nascar the next month) 

  • In your messaging (you can’t be all about service & experience, then be all about discounts & mini sessions)

  • In your client experience

Consistency will get you

  • Visibility (People cannot hire you if you are invisible.)

  • Confidence (Do it scared.  I know it’s scary, but the more you show up, the easier it gets & that will bring you more & more confidence.)

  • Growth (Wanna grow faster?  Show up.  Stop hiding behind your logo, behind your clients.  They need to know who you are.)

  • Leads (When you show up consistently, they are going to be interested in what you do.)

  • Consults (When you show up consistently, they are going to book those consults because they trust you.)

  • Bookings (When you show up consistently, the consults becomes easy because they feel like they already know you, like they have a relationship with you, they are ready to say yes when they show up.)

  • Sales (When you continue to show up for your clients, you will make higher sales.)

  • Referrals (Again that consistency, that trust that they have in you because you did an amazing job, will bring you referrals.)

The results that you are getting in your business are a direct result of how you are showing up in your business.  Consistency wins every time.

What will trust get you?  And what exactly do you need to trust in?

  • Trust that you are capable of running a profitable, sustainable business.

  • Trust that clients will show up, because you are showing up.

  • Trust that they want to book you, that they want to say yes on the consult.

  • Trust that big sales are available to you too.


Trust will

  • Move you into action

  • Make you stop questioning yourself 

  • Make you look at your clients differently

  • Bring a different energy to your business

  • Help you make those big business decisions


I’m not an overnight success.  It took me years to get here - years of consistency & trust that this day would come in my business.  I show up here for you consistently because I want you to succeed. 

Why It’s Important To Celebrate Your Wins

I celebrate the wins - my own & my students because they are worth celebrating, because they are living proof that consistency & trust makes a huge difference in your business.  That’s where you see real results.

Look, it gets to be easy, but you have to be willing to do the hard stuff first (exactly what we’re talking about here today - consistency & trust).

You get to take a month off when life throws you a curve ball or you wanna get married ;)  

My business didn’t fall apart in that month.  My business took good care of me & my boys in that month.  My clients & audience knew I wasn’t going anywhere.  Why?  Because I’ve been consistent for years & I’ve earned their trust along the way.

I believe this is possible for everyone, but most won’t get it.

Not because they can’t, but because they just won’t.

  • They won’t keep showing up even when they don’t feel like it.

  • They won’t keep going when it seems like things aren’t working.

  • They won’t dust themselves off & get back on the horse (like my Daddy used to tell me).

  • They won’t invest in coaching, especially high level, long term coaching.

  • They won’t continue improving their craft.

  • They won’t make big, bold moves.

So yeah, you can have this too.  But are you willing to do what it takes to get there?  

You have to start now.
